Newport Rock Collecting 2021- 'Ride'

Ride 

This piece is one of the artworks commissioned to celebrate the archive collection of Newport Rock Collecting and will join Newport Museum and Art Gallery's permanent collection.

 

The brief for this commission was to depict 40 years of Newport's music scene from 1970-2010.

I have used nails to depict the movement of people to gigs with their collective gatherings forming the faces of musicians. I wanted to highlight the importance of bands followers and ultimately the gigs experience that allowed music come to the people, as an experiencial moment for all. The promotors of which enabled us to  "Come along for the ride" (Simon Phillips, Cheep Sweaty Fun) It was Simon I interviewed for the project, he pops up and inbetween the lettering of this excitable tag line.
