The ART in Awen

These sessions are designed for anyone to partake in, no skills necessary, just enthusiam to express and share your identity in the place where you live, with your community. While being absorbed by the process of mosic making and collaborating. You will be helping to making a life sized contemporay mosaic for your community to enjoy.

The Fringe Project is a community based mosaic art project that celebrates The ART in living. We are create opportunities for people to celebrate how The Arts enhances to peoples lives, in an experiential, practical and collective way, through the process of art activity.

 

What, When and Where

Session 1 - Inspire and Design workshop   

1-5pm Free DROP IN Event  Saturday 14th September 

Venue - The Riverfront, upstairs foyer

 

Session 2 - Awen - Mosaic workshop 

Sunday 22nd 1 - 3.30pm

Venue - Eglwys Mynyyd Seion/Mount Zion Church

 

Session 3 - The Big Make - Mosaic workshop supported by BAMM members

1-3pm Sunday 6th October

Venue - The Place 

 

These are adult workshops but teenagers accompanied by an adult are welcome (14+) Diversity is perfect.

 

The sessions are designed for anyone to partake in, no skills necessary, just enthusiam to express or share your identity in the place where you live and be absorbed by the process of making and collaborating.

What you can bring

This project gives our participants voice and say what is important to them, so please bring with you photographs, objects, pottery or fabrics that help tell the story of who you are.

Some words from the lead artist  Stephanie Roberts

Stephanie is a Newport based mosaic artist who has made many mosaics across the city and beyond. Her particular intersted are - women in society and environmental issues. As seen in her works The Street Fairy Project, The Seven Sisters of Newport and Eog - Protect Our Waters project.

Stephanie is a community artist and has dedicated 30 years to working with community to create public artworks, workshops and run courses in The Art of Mosaic.
